Safari Timings:

Pench National Park, a top jungle safari destination in India, offers unforgettable animal experiences. The Pench National Park, shared by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, offers safaris in the morning and evening, with schedules determined by the higher authorities of the park. While summers and winters have different time windows, sunset and sunrise also play a significant role in safari scheduling. The park opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes before sundown. In addition, management adjusts timetables to accommodate VIP visits.

Winter is the best time to visit Pench National Park as the weather is pleasant and ideal for a wildlife safari. From November to February, the temperature gradually declines to 5℃.

Popular Wildlife Species

Tourism is attracted to the park by its terrifying Bengal Tigers. About 50 tigers live in the park's prey-rich woodlands. The forest herd comprises deer, rhesus macaques, langurs, gaurs, sambars, and bison. Around 210 bird species live in Pench National Park including peafowl, crow pheasant, red-vented bulbul, Indian roller, magpie robin, wagtail, myna, munia, and minivet.

The Pench Gates

Turia Gate:

  • Located near Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra border, close to NH 7.

  • Road to Sita Ghat runs parallel to Pench River, home to diverse bird species and potential tiger sightings and wild dogs.
  • Central park area, territory of the Collarwali Tigress, accessible from both Turia and Karmajheri Gates.
Khursapar Gate:
  • Located 12 km from Turia Gate.
  • Undulating terrain with sightings of Tiger, Chowsingha, Chinkara, and Gaurs.
  • Features natural water bodies, including Bakhari Lake.

Sillari Gate:

  • Main gate for Pench Maharashtra, located 40 km from Turia Gate.
  • Features a beautiful forest with dense Bamboo and Teak.
  • Offers views of the Totlah Doh Dam on the Pench River.
  • Known for sightings of Wild Dogs and Sloth Bears.
Jamtara Gate:
  • Third gate of the park with a limited area to explore.
  • Option to cross to other zones from Chendia Ghat when the river is dry.

Buffer Zones of Pench

Runi-Jhooni Trail:

  • 3 km walking trail with the core zone on one side.

Rukhad Buffer:
  • Features Bamboo, Jamun, Arjun Trees, flowing streams, and butterflies.

Travel Options

By Air

If you fly to Pench, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur and Jabalpur Airport are your best options. The former is 130 kilometers away and is simple to reach for domestic and international travelers, while the latter is 213 km away and only domestic flyers can utilize it. From the airport to Pench, taxis are convenient and pleasant.

By Train

The closest railway station to Pench is Seoni in Madhya Pradesh, 72 km away and well connected to major cities. The 205-km Jabalpur railway station is another way to reach Pench.
